ISLAMABAD: The Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, announced that the government is actively working to ensure the availability of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at reasonable prices, addressing public concerns over distribution and pricing. This statement was made during the inaugural meeting of a newly formed committee tasked with overseeing a transparent auction process for LPG.
According to Radio Pakistan, the committee, chaired by the Secretary of Petroleum, outlined a new auction system intended to stabilize the LPG supply chain and enhance energy security. Under this mechanism, local LPG producers are required to allocate ten percent of their production to government-owned marketing companies to fulfill the needs of remote areas. The remaining ninety percent of LPG will be auctioned transparently, with media presence to ensure fairness.
The Minister emphasized that the initiative aims to provide all eligible companies with equal opportunities to participate in the auction, potentially improving LPG availability for consumers at reasonable prices. Furthermore, the committee specified that companies would be limited to acquiring a maximum of twenty metric tons of LPG per day through the auction, ensuring a fair distribution among participants.
