Subsidized Agricultural Equipment Distributed to Control Smog in Punjab

Lahore, Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb recently attended an event organized by the Agriculture Department Punjab, where Pak Seeder and Rice Straw Shredder were distributed to farmers under a smog control initiative by Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The event took place at the Rice Research Institute Kala Shah Kaku, highlighting efforts to tackle smog problems exacerbated by paddy residue burning.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the government has allocated 8 billion rupees to provide 5,000 Pak seeders and 2,000 rice straw shredders across 21 districts. Senior Minister Aurangzeb reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare of farmers, noting the ongoing implementation of the “Transforming Punjab Agriculture” Plan, which includes several cost-reducing measures for farmers. She detailed that the government’s initiatives are designed to significantly alleviate the hardships of farmers and improve agricultural productivity.

Agriculture Minister Punjab Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, who also spoke at the event, outlined further support measures for farmers, including the forthcoming Kissan Card for interest-free loans and infrastructure improvements in irrigation. He mentioned that a transparent balloting process had selected 7,000 farmers to receive modern agricultural machinery, aimed at better crop residue management and smog control.
