Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Water Resources convened its 13th meeting today, chaired by Mr. Ahmad Atteeq Anwer, to address pressing issues related to water resource management and national project oversight. Key topics included discussions on the WAPDA Security Force (WSF) Act, the non-completion of the K-IV project, and rehabilitation efforts for those affected by the Tarbela Dam.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the Chairman of WAPDA detailed the critical function of the WSF in safeguarding national assets and personnel involved in WAPDA projects. He underscored the necessity of the proposed WSF Act to provide legal authority and operational guidance to the Force. However, the Standing Committee opted to defer the consideration of this Bill until its subsequent meeting, citing the need for further deliberation.

In addition to the WSF Act discussions, the Committee established a sub-committee led by Mr. Muhammad Idrees to probe the incomplete K-IV project, which has incurred significant expenditures without reaching completion. Furthermore, the Committee engaged in discussions about forming a Tarbela Dam Authority to address the long-standing concerns of those affected by the dam’s construction. The Committee urged the Ministry to propose a legal framework to resolve these issues effectively.

The meeting included participation from various Members of the National Assembly (MNAs), including those attending remotely via Zoom, and officials from the Ministry of Water Resources, highlighting collaborative efforts to address these critical national concerns.
