ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, emphasized the pivotal role played by the Constituent Assembly in shaping Pakistan’s democratic and parliamentary framework, marking its 79th anniversary. He noted that the establishment of the Assembly was a significant event that laid a foundation for constitutional governance, highlighting its ongoing importance in ensuring national unity and prosperity.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Speaker Sadiq reflected on the inaugural session of the Constituent Assembly in Karachi on August 10, 1947, as a testament to the democratic aspirations of Pakistan’s Founding Fathers. He underscored the Assembly’s role in facilitating modern governance by establishing principles for constitution-making and legislation. He called for a renewed commitment to uphold democratic values and educate the younger generation about Pakistan’s parliamentary history to strengthen state institutions.

The Speaker stressed the role of Parliament as a representative body addressing public concerns through effective legislation. He announced initiatives to enhance legislative transparency and urged political leaders to prioritize national interests through dialogue and consensus. Sadiq highlighted recent technological advancements within the National Assembly Secretariat, such as the use of AI and digital systems, aimed at improving access to information and institutional performance.

Speaker Sadiq also noted the successful transition of Parliament to solar energy since 2015, aligning with sustainable development goals. He reiterated the Parliament’s dedication to constitutional duties and promoting democratic principles, essential for achieving national development and stability.

Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of the anniversary in reaffirming democratic values and the commitment to public service, asserting that Parliament embodies national unity and serves as the people’s collective voice.
