Karachi: Laboratory test reports reveal that the water quality of Keenjhar Lake in Thatta remains within safe limits, contradicting recent claims of pollution. The Sindh Irrigation Department spokesperson, while releasing the reports, clarified that allegations of contamination are unverified.
According to World Health Organization, Mr. Muzammil Memon, Executive Engineer of Kalri Baghar Division Thatta, stated that the reports circulating on social media about pollution in Keenjhar Lake are unfounded. He assured that the water quality is under regular scrutiny, with daily tests conducted at both Keenjhar Lake and the KG Canal, which supplies water to Karachi.
The laboratory findings indicated that the pH level of water at Keenjhar Lake’s central point was 8.3, and the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) measured 350 mg/L. At the KG Canal’s downstream point, the pH level was recorded at 8.4. These measurements comply with the standards set by the World Health Organization.
Mr. Memon reiterated that the water supplied to Karachi is closely monitored, with chemical element levels remaining within WHO’s prescribed limits. The department urged the public to disregard unverified information and rely solely on official government communications regarding water quality. Continuous monitoring efforts for the lake and the city’s water supply will persist to ensure safety.
