SIFC Advances ML-1 Project to Overhaul Pakistan’s Rail Infrastructure

Islamabad: The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) is advancing the ML-1 railway upgradation project with the aim of modernizing Pakistan’s rail network. This effort is expected to enhance the country’s industrial development by improving connectivity and logistics.

According to Radio Pakistan, the ML-1 project is a significant initiative designed to link industrial centers with ports, thereby modernizing the logistics network across the nation. The project is projected to boost rail freight capacity and improve the efficiency of the national railway system, reducing travel time between major urban centers.

The project also seeks to shift freight transport from roads to rail, focusing on the development of dedicated freight corridors. Additionally, the initiative aims to enhance the commercial viability of the ML-1, ML-2, and ML-3 lines while expanding freight connectivity to areas such as Attock, Quetta, Taftan, and regions rich in minerals.
