Showpiece project for Srinagar and Jammu still awaits Delhi’s nod

Srinagar, June 16, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the much-hyped metro project in the cities of Jammu and Srinagar is still awaiting approval for funds from New Delhi. A document prepared by the planning department for an official presentation on the project said, “Approval/appraisal of the DPR (detailed project report) along with funding for these projects is awaited from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.”

Set to be finished in 2024 by an outside firm, RITES, the light metro transit system would run 17 hours a day in Jammu city, whereas in Srinagar it will run 17 hours daily during summers and 14 hours daily in winters. Due to technical problems, the tracks cannot be laid underground so the metro will run on elevated corridors.
