Islamabad: A Senate Sub-Committee convened at the Parliament House to assess the rent collection system and encroachments on Jammu & Kashmir State land, focusing on transparency and accountability. The meeting, chaired by Senator Nasir Mehmood, reviewed the transition to a digital rent collection system and addressed concerns about land encroachments in Lahore and Rawalpindi.
According to Senate of Pakistan, the meeting included Senators Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto and Naseema Ehsan, and high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs. The Committee raised issues over the existing cash-based rent collection system and sought comprehensive records of rent collection, outstanding dues, and tenant details. Officials noted that efforts are ongoing to digitize the rent collection process and improve transparency.
The Committee received reports of irregularities, including pending cases with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Officials provided data on Jammu & Kashmir State land, revealing demarcations and encroachments in Lahore neighborhoods. The Committee requested a thorough investigation into unauthorized utility connections and commercial activities on State land.
The Chairman instructed officials to compile detailed records on rent collection, tenancy, and encroachments. The Committee plans field visits for verification and called for stronger enforcement against encroachments. It also requested NAB’s involvement in future meetings to discuss pending cases. The Committee emphasized resolving ongoing issues through digitization, verification, and enforcement.
