Islamabad: Lawmakers in Pakistan’s Senate paid heartfelt tributes to Senator Taj Haider and former Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmad, both of whom passed away recently. In an emotionally charged session, members from various political parties commemorated the life and contributions of the late senators, emphasizing their dedication to democracy and the rights of marginalized communities.

Opening the session, Sherry Rehman highlighted Taj Haider’s role as a founding member of the Pakistan People’s Party and his steadfast advocacy for democratic rights. She noted that his legacy would be cherished for his contributions to the political landscape and social justice.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar extended condolences on behalf of the government, acknowledging Taj Haider’s loyalty and selflessness as a politician. He praised Haider’s lifelong commitment to fostering democracy and decency in politics.

Syed Shibli Faraz described Haider as a source of guidance and wisdom, while Hamid Khan lauded his independent thought, a rare trait in today’s political environment. Kamran Murtaza remarked on the nation’s loss, emphasizing Haider’s noble personality.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar remembered Taj Haider’s unparalleled loyalty to the PPP and his efforts for labor rights, education, and health. Dar also paid tribute to Khurshid Ahmad for his multidisciplinary contributions.

Various senators, including Hidayatullah Khan and Pervaiz Rashid, shared their memories and respect for the late senators. The session concluded with the unanimous passing of two resolutions, honoring Taj Haider and Khurshid Ahmad for their public service.

The House also offered prayers led by Maulana Abdul Wasay for the deceased senators, victims of recent tragedies, and others. Following the tributes and resolutions, the Senate session was prorogued.
