Senate Minority Caucus Directs Police to Recover 14-Year-Old Girl Amid Forced Conversion Allegations

Islamabad: The Senate Minority Caucus has expressed serious concern over the alleged forced conversion and marriage of a 14-year-old girl, directing police to take immediate action for her recovery. During a meeting held at Parliament House, the caucus, led by Senator Danesh Kumar, addressed the continuous absence of key officials and discussed systemic challenges in protecting minority rights.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the meeting was attended by various ministers, senators, and senior officers. Convener Senator Danesh Kumar criticized the repeated absence of key secretaries and establishment officers, warning that continued non-attendance could result in formal privilege motions. The committee stressed the importance of these meetings as public forums and highlighted the consequences of unauthorized absences.

The committee took serious notice of the alleged abduction and forced conversion of minority girls, particularly in Sindh and Balochistan. Detailed briefings were provided by the respective DIGs, who acknowledged the lack of action due to a questionable writ petition. Senator Khalil Tahir Sandhu and legal representatives expressed concerns over the police’s inaction, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to the Child Marriage Restraint Act.

The committee condemned the role of Mian Mithu, accused of orchestrating forced conversions and marriages, and urged for firm action against him. It was noted that Mithu’s influence has hindered law enforcement efforts, and the matter should be brought to the attention of senior leadership in the Pakistan Peoples Party.

The committee called for coordinated efforts between federal and provincial stakeholders, urging law enforcement to act transparently and hold perpetrators accountable. The importance of national policies and standardized legal protections to prevent such cases was underscored.

Senator Danesh Kumar directed the police to investigate the origins of the disputed petition and ensure the recovery of the girl within seven days. The committee remains committed to addressing minority rights and preventing forced conversions and marriages.
