ISLAMABAD: Acting President and Chairman of the Senate, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, on Tuesday unveiled the Senate Mobile Application, marking a pivotal step towards digital empowerment and institutional efficiency within Pakistan’s parliamentary system. The launch is aimed at fostering a more transparent and responsive environment in legislative processes.
According to Press Information Department, the initiative, introduced during a ceremony at the Parliament House, was described by Gilani as a transformative move that not only embraces technology but also redefines the Senate’s operational framework. He emphasized that the application signifies a shift towards modernizing the parliamentary institution, which has traditionally relied on manual systems. This digital leap is intended to streamline processes, ensuring that the Senate keeps pace with technological advancements.
Gilani further highlighted the broader scope of digitalization, noting that the Senate Mobile Application is part of an overarching strategy to save time, improve efficiency, and eliminate procedural redundancies. He underlined the importance of enhancing institutional effectiveness, suggesting that seamless systems allow for a greater focus on constitutional roles and public service.
The Acting President also pointed to the role of technology in bridging the gap between Parliament and the public. By providing timely information and facilitating public feedback, the Senate’s digital platforms aim to strengthen public trust and counter misinformation. Gilani concluded by urging senators to embrace the new technology to enhance their parliamentary work and engagement with citizens.
Acting Chairman of the Senate, Syedaal Khan Nasar, and Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, echoed these sentiments, recognizing the application as a milestone in the Senate’s journey towards modernization. They emphasized the need for transparency, accountability, and timely access to information in a robust parliamentary system.
Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, also supported the digital transformation efforts, noting the government’s focus on digital economy, society, and governance. She highlighted the Senate’s role in this shift, which aims to improve transparency and efficacy in governance.
The Senate’s IT Department, under the guidance of Secretary Syed Hasnain Haider, developed the application to support the Senate’s modernization efforts and enhance the dissemination of parliamentary information, further aligning with the digital transformation agenda.
