Islamabad: A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works was conducted at Parliament Lodges under the chairmanship of Senator Nasir Mehmood, focusing on the compliance of various ministries and divisions with the transfer and payment of salaries to Pakistan Public Works Department maintenance staff.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the committee reviewed a comprehensive report from the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Works regarding the implementation of a Federal Cabinet decision dated September 6, 2024. This decision mandates several ministries and divisions to accept the transfer of Pak PWD maintenance staff and ensure the payment of their salaries and eight months of arrears.

The committee was informed that the National Accountability Bureau, Intelligence Bureau, and Federal Board of Revenue have complied with the committee’s directives. The Intelligence Bureau has accepted eight employees and issued appointment orders, with the processing of salary bills underway. One employee’s case remains pending as their posting is in Karachi instead of Balochistan. The process for the pension of a deceased employee has also been initiated.

Officials stated that the Auditor General of Pakistan sent a list of 20 employees to the Ministry via the Director General Pak PWD on March 9, 2026. Once funds are released by the Finance Division, salary payments will begin within two days.

The Ministry of Defence reported seven employees under its jurisdiction, with the matter referred to the Finance Division for budget allocation. Similarly, the Cabinet Division has reached out to the Finance Division for necessary funds to process salaries.

The Federal Investigation Agency received the staff list recently, noting an increase from 21 to 49 employees, requiring additional time for processing.

Other departments are reportedly initiating compliance with the Cabinet decision. Chairman Senator Nasir Mehmood directed all departments to expedite the process, stressing the importance of resolving salary payment delays.

The committee will continue to monitor the situation to ensure timely salary disbursement. The meeting concluded with instructions for all ministries and divisions to prioritize remaining procedures and submit updated compliance reports.
