ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication was convened at Parliament House, chaired by Senator Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan. The Committee examined government-led telecommunication projects in Qila Abdullah and discussed recent cyber-attack incidents and data protection measures.

According to Senate of Pakistan, officials from the Universal Service Fund (USF) briefed the Committee on the progress of telecommunication infrastructure projects in Qila Abdullah. The projects aim to extend voice and data services to previously unserved areas, with 22 mauzas benefiting from new telecom towers. The Committee also discussed the proposed Telecommunication Competition Rules, 2026, which seek to promote fair competition in the sector.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication updated the Committee on cybersecurity measures, while the Ministry of Interior and other officials provided insights into security protocols following a recent high-profile incident. The Committee stressed the importance of robust cybersecurity measures and better coordination among institutions to protect national data systems.
