Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control convened at Parliament House to address pressing issues related to law enforcement oversight, public safety, and civic infrastructure in the federal capital. Chaired by Senator Faisal Saleem Rehman, the session saw discussions on a range of matters, from parliamentary privileges and law enforcement regulations to urban planning and security policies.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the committee explored various topics, including concerns raised by Senator Abid Sher Ali regarding No Objection Certificates for parliamentarians’ official passports, which the Director General of Passports clarified do not face restrictions under current law. The committee also directed future discussions on tampered vehicles and illegal plot allotments, with ongoing investigations involving the FIA and CDA being a focal point.

Public safety and law enforcement updates were provided, including a briefing on the Mahnoor abduction case and fire safety regulations across Islamabad. Water supply issues were also discussed, with the CDA presenting plans to address supply gaps through initiatives like water conduction from the Tarbela Dam.

Urban planning debates included the need for daycare facilities, prompting the CDA to compile reports on establishing such centers, and the committee reviewed the paid parking policy, scrutinizing the utilization of revenues generated.

Security policy deliberations included insights into Tinted Glass Permits and arms licenses, highlighting regional disparities and the need for policy updates. Visa policies for Afghan visitors and intelligence operations in Sindh were also part of the meeting’s agenda.

The committee’s final discussions addressed NOC requirements for international tourists in Gilgit-Baltistan and the absence of FIA offices in certain regions, with directives issued to address these concerns. The meeting, attended by key senators and officials, underscored the committee’s commitment to enhancing Islamabad’s infrastructure and security landscape.
