Karachi: The Senate Sub-Committee on National Heritage and Culture has raised concerns over the restrictions on public access to the Quaid’s mausoleum, citing a disconnection between the youth and their cultural identity. The committee emphasized the importance of ensuring public security while urging stakeholders to make the mausoleum fully accessible. The meeting, led by Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi, included participation from Senators Bushra Anjum Butt, Syed Masroor Ahsan, and Sarmad Ali, along with local officials.
According to Senate of Pakistan, the chairman of the committee, Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi, highlighted the need for improved coordination among departments to enhance public facilities at Mazar-e-Quaid. He advocated for encouraging educational visits and activities to foster a connection between young people and the nation’s heritage. The committee suggested eliminating the perception of preferential access for VIPs by ensuring equal access for all citizens.
The meeting also discussed the necessity of improving efficiency in water and electricity supply at the mausoleum, as well as installing surveillance cameras. The committee called for a comprehensive and sustainable reform policy for the preservation and management of Mazar-e-Quaid. Additionally, the committee took part in an anti-polio campaign at the Commissioner House, underscoring the government’s commitment to eradicating polio in Pakistan.
