Islamabad: A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on National Heritage and Culture, chaired by Senator Hidayatullah Khan, was convened to discuss legislative and administrative matters related to the National Heritage and Culture Division and the Quaid-i-Azam Mazar Management Board (QMMB). In attendance were Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi, Sarmad Ali, and Federal Minister Aurangzeb Khan Khichi.
According to Senate of Pakistan, the Committee unanimously approved a Bill proposing the replacement of the term “Government” with “concerned Division” and “Minister” to delegate powers and reduce administrative delays. The Committee was also briefed on the preservation efforts at the Sir Syed Memorial Museum and the challenges at the mausoleum premises, including security issues and illegal encroachments.
The Secretary of the National Heritage and Culture Division highlighted the Division’s role in managing the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, with ongoing coordination with the Government of Sindh. Mr. Aleem Sheikh provided insights into the QMMB’s formation and activities, noting its recent meetings and ongoing challenges. Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi emphasized the need for improved security and cleanliness at the mausoleum and recommended increased involvement from local representatives.
The Committee discussed budgetary allocations and proposed financial contributions from provinces towards the maintenance of the mausoleum. Additionally, the formation of a Sub-Committee to oversee ongoing projects and the renovation of Awan-e-Nawadarat was announced, with plans for further grant allocations under the PSDP for the financial year 2026-27.
