Sardar Masood Khan Urges Trump to Embrace Diplomacy with Iran After Midterm Setback

Islamabad: The recent U.S. midterm elections have delivered a significant political setback to President Donald Trump, prompting calls for a diplomatic approach towards Iran to avoid further military escalation, according to Sardar Masood Khan, a former ambassador and president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

According to President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Masood Khan, in a television interview, described the midterm elections as consequential, highlighting the public’s sentiment towards President Trump’s policies. Although Trump was not on the ballot, the elections reflected a shift in congressional power, with Democrats gaining influence that could challenge the administration’s legislative agenda despite the president’s veto powers.

Khan discussed the implications for the conflict with Iran, emphasizing the need for negotiations over military action. He noted that while President Trump’s statements have varied, the administration’s decisions are crucial. Khan also pointed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s political difficulties, suggesting they could impact regional tensions, with Netanyahu advocating for more aggressive U.S. action against Iran.

Khan praised diplomatic efforts by Qatar and Oman to facilitate understanding between Washington and Tehran, with proposals focusing on disengagement and negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program. He stressed the importance of cooperation with European allies and regional players, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye, warning that renewed military action would harm all involved parties.

He concluded that the conflict’s economic and military costs for Washington, without achieving its objectives, create an opportunity for negotiations to establish a lasting peace.
