Islamabad: The United Nations must be fortified rather than abandoned, urged Sardar Masood Khan, former Ambassador of Pakistan and past President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, as he addressed the escalating conflicts in the Middle East. He emphasized the importance of revitalizing multilateralism and upholding the rule of law to effectively tackle ongoing global crises.

According to President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Khan highlighted the ramifications of the intensifying US-Iran confrontation, underscoring its regional and global implications. He also pointed to the intricate security situation involving the Houthis, Saudi Arabia, and the broader Gulf region. Khan advocated for a blend of sustained diplomacy and security measures to navigate these challenges.

In discussing the regional conflict, Khan noted Pakistan’s dual commitments to Saudi Arabia through defense arrangements and its diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington. He emphasized Pakistan’s capacity to support Saudi Arabia while fostering diplomatic dialogue to de-escalate tensions and encourage negotiations.

Khan raised the critical question of whether the US-Iran conflict would escalate further or lead to a negotiated resolution, acknowledging both nations’ public positions and the potential for diplomatic engagement. He highlighted the significant costs borne by Iran, the United States, and the wider region, affecting Gulf states, energy markets, and regional stability.
