Islamabad: Sardar Masood Khan, the former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and a seasoned diplomat, emphasized the importance of maintaining democratic stability in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to promote peace in the Middle East. Khan highlighted that dialogue and constitutional processes are crucial in addressing both domestic and regional challenges.

According to the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Khan supported the Election Commission’s decision to conduct phased elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, describing it as a balanced democratic approach given the current security situation. He urged political parties to exercise restraint during campaigns to prevent internal divisions and avoid opportunities for hostile propaganda against Pakistan.

Khan stressed the importance of resolving constitutional and legislative matters through the elected Legislative Assembly, adhering to democratic norms and institutional procedures. He noted that responsible political conduct is vital for maintaining Pakistan’s position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and preventing adversaries from exploiting political differences.

Addressing regional affairs, Khan advocated for Pakistan’s continued diplomatic role in mitigating the Iran-United States conflict, emphasizing Pakistan’s unique position to facilitate dialogue due to its relationships with Tehran, Washington, and Saudi Arabia. He stressed the need to utilize all diplomatic channels to prevent further damage to civilian infrastructure, regional economies, and global energy security.

Khan also highlighted Pakistan’s responsibilities in its strategic defense cooperation with Saudi Arabia, emphasizing that preventing conflict expansion is in Pakistan’s national interest. He warned that a broader confrontation could threaten maritime trade routes, energy supplies, and economic stability in the Middle East and South Asia.

Commenting on the United States-Saudi civilian nuclear agreement, Khan acknowledged its diplomatic significance but noted unresolved issues regarding safeguards and verification. He stressed the need for transparent implementation and international oversight to preserve regional strategic stability.

Khan reiterated that dialogue, constitutional governance, and responsible diplomacy are essential for resolving political disputes, safeguarding national interests, and achieving lasting peace in South Asia and the Middle East.
