Research Head Urges Punjab Government to Integrate Organic Farming with Employment Scheme

Lahore: Najam Mazari, head of a research organization focused on organic food and products, has called on the Punjab government to incorporate organic agriculture into its “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” initiative. He believes this integration could significantly enhance the growth of the organic sector.

According to Chief Minister of Punjab, Mazari expressed optimism that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif would discuss the proposal with relevant authorities. He urged both federal and provincial governments to work together in promoting organic farming. He also advocated for modern laboratories and a robust certification system to boost organic product exports.

Mazari noted the untapped potential of Punjab for organic agriculture, attributing it to insufficient guidance and awareness among farmers. He asserted that with targeted policy support, Pakistan could capitalize on the increasing global demand for organic food, potentially increasing foreign exchange earnings.

Mazari stressed that aligning the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” scheme with organic farming needs would encourage farmers to adopt sustainable practices and expand the sector. He also pointed out the dual benefits of organic agriculture, which include economic gains and environmental advantages, such as maintaining soil fertility and reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers.
