Report Details Severe Repression and State Terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: As the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism is observed globally, a new report highlights the intense state terrorism and political repression in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) under the Narendra Modi-led government.

According to Kashmir Media Service, since the revocation of the region’s special status on August 5, 2019, the Indian government has escalated its campaign of state-sponsored violence. The report provides stark figures documenting the impact of these policies over the past 35 years, including 96,343 deaths, 22,977 widows, and 107,965 orphaned children since 1989. The documentation also notes 11,264 cases of molestation and the destruction of 110,518 structures by Indian troops.

The analysis condemns the Modi administration for normalizing terrorism as a tool of state policy in Kashmir, highlighting the transformation of the region into a zone of severe human suffering. It calls on the international community to hold India accountable for what it describes as ongoing war crimes and human rights violations in Kashmir.

The report also emphasizes the increased anti-Muslim sentiment in the region since the BJP’s rise to power in 2014, but notes the unbroken resolve of Kashmiris to continue their struggle for self-determination despite severe repression.
