Srinagar: Indian police have placed Agha Syed Hadi, a noted scholar and religious leader, under house arrest in Budgam, located in the Indian-administered region of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to reports from Kashmir Media Service, law enforcement officials arrived at Hadi’s residence on Saturday evening to inform him of the house arrest. This development comes as Hadi was scheduled to participate as the chief guest at an Islamic Art and Calligraphy Award Ceremony. The event was set to take place today at Masjid Sajjadiya in Hassan-Abad Srinagar.
The ceremony was anticipated to feature several prominent scholars, including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who was expected to present awards to artists for their work in Islamic art and calligraphy.
A spokesperson for the organizing party expressed deep disappointment over the actions taken by authorities to limit Agha Syed Hadi’s movement. The spokesperson emphasized that the ceremony was intended solely as a platform to recognize and celebrate young talent in Islamic arts.
