New York: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, engaged in discussions with the Chair of the US Export-Import Bank, Mr. John Jovanovich, during his visit to New York for the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting focused on exploring financing opportunities for Pakistan International Airlines’ aircraft procurement, refinery upgrades, and the Reko Diq mining project.

According to Press Information Department, the Finance Minister expressed Pakistan International Airlines’ interest in acquiring Boeing aircraft, specifically 787 Dreamliners, and requested support for a comprehensive financing package that would also cover engines and spare parts to bring grounded Boeing 777s back into service. Both parties agreed to continue developing a broader cooperation framework, with an emphasis on specific transactions, such as potential financing for aircraft pre-delivery payments. The conversation also identified refinery upgrades as a potential area for US EXIM Bank’s support.

Regarding the Reko Diq mining project, the Finance Minister highlighted its significance for Pakistan’s future export potential and the financial implications of project delays. He welcomed US EXIM Bank’s ongoing commitment to the project’s development.
