New York: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, engaged with international partners on digital transformation and financing for aviation, refinery modernization, and the Reko Diq mining project during his visit to New York for the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to Press Information Department, the Finance Minister participated in the Digital Cooperation Organization’s High-Level Ministerial Dialogue, where he emphasized the role of digital transformation in Pakistan’s economic strategy. He discussed the development of digital public infrastructure and cashless payments, and stressed the importance of upskilling and reskilling for digital workers. The Minister also highlighted legislative efforts around virtual assets, focusing on their practical applications beyond cryptocurrency.

In a meeting with the Chair of the US Export-Import Bank, Mr. John Jovanovich, Senator Aurangzeb explored financing opportunities for Pakistan International Airlines’ procurement of Boeing aircraft, refinery upgrades, and the Reko Diq mining project. Discussions included potential financing for aircraft and engines, as well as spare parts for grounded Boeing 777 aircraft. Both parties agreed to prioritize specific transactions and continue developing a broader cooperation framework.

The Minister highlighted the significance of the Reko Diq project for Pakistan’s exports and acknowledged US EXIM Bank’s ongoing commitment. His engagements underscored Pakistan’s efforts to enhance digital transformation and secure international financing for critical sectors.
