Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, met with Mr. Robert Simpson, Deputy Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and Ms. Rebekah Bell, FAO Representative, to discuss ways to fortify the partnership between Pakistan and FAO in agriculture and food security.

According to Press Information Department, the discussions focused on Pakistan’s agricultural priorities and identified potential areas to enhance collaboration in sustainable agrifood systems, food security, agricultural development, and support for farming communities. The Federal Minister acknowledged FAO’s ongoing cooperation with Pakistan and underscored the importance of international partnerships in addressing the challenges facing agriculture.

Hussain highlighted the significance of knowledge-sharing, technical cooperation, research, and innovation in improving agricultural productivity and strengthening the resilience of agrifood systems. He also discussed opportunities for engaging with FAO initiatives promoting sustainable and resilient agriculture, emphasizing modern technologies, climate-smart practices, improved food processing, and youth-led initiatives as potential growth areas.

Both parties explored ways to strengthen institutional linkages and develop practical cooperation areas that support Pakistan’s agricultural development. Hussain emphasized the role of sustained collaboration with international partners in translating technical expertise and global best practices into solutions tailored to Pakistan’s needs.

The Federal Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to collaborate closely with FAO for sustainable agricultural growth, enhanced food security, and improved livelihoods for farming communities, expressing hope that ongoing engagement would further solidify the partnership between Pakistan and FAO.
