Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh Showcases Pakistan’s Investment Reforms and Opportunities at World Economic Forum


New York: Federal Minister for Board of Investment, Mr. Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, addressed the World Economic Forum’s Sustainable Development Impact Meetings in New York, presenting Pakistan’s recent regulatory reforms and new investment opportunities aimed at enhancing investor confidence and facilitating sustainable, technology-driven growth.



According to Press Information Department, Mr. Sheikh outlined Pakistan’s efforts to create a regulatory environment conducive to innovation and business growth during the Global Regulatory Innovation Platform panel. He emphasized the government’s focus on establishing clear and predictable regulations while maintaining essential safeguards to protect public interest and investor trust.



Mr. Sheikh highlighted the Board of Investment’s role in implementing over 500 regulatory reforms across 30 sectors, involving approximately 90 federal and provincial departments. Key initiatives include the Pakistan Regulatory Modernization Initiative and the Asaan Karobar Act 2025, which aim to simplify and digitize business regulations, reduce compliance burdens, and improve government service accessibility.



The Minister also showcased the Board of Investment’s Business Facilitation Centre in Islamabad, which has centralized services from 22 federal agencies, enhancing investor service delivery and facilitating significant investments and job creation.



Addressing Pakistan’s approach to emerging technologies, Mr. Sheikh mentioned the country’s commitment to fostering innovation while ensuring accountability and transparency. He noted the use of regulatory sandboxes for controlled experimentation, supporting responsible AI development under the National AI Policy.



Furthermore, Mr. Sheikh discussed Pakistan’s investment framework under the Investment Policy 2023, offering significant opportunities for international investors, including in Special Economic Zones with incentives such as tax exemptions and customs duty waivers. He highlighted successful international engagement, particularly with China, and expressed interest in expanding such partnerships globally.



The Federal Minister underscored the importance of sustainability and climate resilience in Pakistan’s investment agenda, inviting global investors to explore opportunities in various sectors to contribute to the country’s economic growth and resilience.
