LAHORE: Acting on directives from Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, field teams rapidly completed rainwater drainage in districts, cities, and localities across Punjab following recent monsoon rains.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the chief minister instructed district administrations and relevant departments to stay on high alert and directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to have teams equipped with machinery in the field. The drainage operations were completed in record time as per her instructions.

The operations were conducted in all affected districts, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Mandi Bahauddin. In Gujranwala, authorities managed to drain a record 250 millimeters of rainwater. Major roads in various cities were cleared of accumulated rainwater.

The chief minister stated that the rain situation across Punjab was being monitored through Safe City cameras and directed all commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain present in the field. In Sialkot, specific roads such as Allama Iqbal Road and Kotli Behram were cleared, and traffic was restored on others including Commissioner Road and Khadim Ali Road.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed satisfaction with the timely performance of the Sialkot administration, noting that drainage work had commenced immediately after rainfall ceased and was completed swiftly. She emphasized that prompt drainage in every city is a priority to avoid public inconvenience. Additionally, the chief minister assured that rainwater was not allowed to accumulate in low-lying areas and directed ongoing monitoring of all districts.
