Lahore, In a significant international operation, Punjab Police successfully apprehended Zeeshan Nawaz, a proclaimed offender wanted for murder, in Baku, Azerbaijan. This arrest marks a continuing effort by the Punjab Police to capture fugitives and proclaimed offenders abroad under the directive of Inspector General Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar.
According to Punjab Police, Zeeshan Nawaz was involved in the 2019 murder of advocate Sajid Mehmood Dhadra within the jurisdiction of the Kotwali Sialkot police station. The Special Operations Cell of the Punjab Police, with the assistance of Interpol, located and arrested Nawaz after completing necessary legal and diplomatic procedures. A police team led by Inspector Khalid Nawaz Waryah is currently extraditing the accused, expected to arrive at Lahore Airport tonight.
This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on criminals residing outside of Pakistan, with the total number of such arrests this year now standing at 29. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar commended the efforts of the Regional Police Officer Gujranwala, Tayyab Hafeez Cheema, and his team for their role in the operation. Dr. Anwar emphasized the importance of continuing collaboration with Interpol, the Federal Investigation Agency, and other agencies to ensure the extradition and legal processing of offenders.
