Punjab Housing Initiative Receives UN-Habitat Award for Impact on Low-Income Families

LAHORE: Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Bilal Yasin has praised the international acknowledgment of the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar (ACAG) Programme, which has been recognized by UN-Habitat for its impact on housing in Pakistan.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif was awarded the UN-Habitat Award in Oman for the ACAG Programme, marking a significant achievement for the region. The program is credited with transforming the lives of over 200,000 families by facilitating home ownership for low-income, homeless families in Punjab.

The housing initiative has enabled thousands of families to complete the construction of their homes, with ongoing support extended to those eligible. A key feature of the program is the three-month grace period on loan repayments, which eases the financial burden during the home construction phase.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the ACAG Programme is seen as a critical component of the Punjab government’s strategy to provide social protection and enhance housing facilities. The international recognition is viewed as a testament to the government’s dedication to affordable and people-focused welfare solutions.
