Lahore: The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has made significant strides in enhancing road safety and law enforcement across the province, as per a recent performance report released for September 2024. Under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, the PHP has ramped up its efforts to combat crime, prevent accidents, and ensure the safety of the traveling public.
According to Punjab Police, the PHP’s dedicated teams have utilized the e-Police Post app to check approximately 2.8 million individuals in September, leading to the arrest of 512 proclaimed offenders and fugitives. This initiative is part of a broader effort to maintain law and order and enhance security on Punjab’s highways.
The report details various achievements of the PHP over the month, including the inspection of 1.3 million vehicles, which resulted in the recovery of 212 stolen vehicles and motorcycles. The PHP also enforced traffic laws rigorously, with over 29,000 overloaded vehicles penalized for axle load violations and 1,172 fines issued for the illegal use of gas cylinders in vehicles.
In addition to enforcement actions, the PHP has been active in community service and road safety education. Over 18,000 driving licenses were issued to facilitate legal driving practices. The patrol’s efforts in reuniting 64 missing children with their families were particularly highlighted as a critical community service.
The removal of 714 encroachments has notably improved traffic flow, enhancing road safety for commuters. The PHP also provided assistance to 9,712 passengers and delivered various policing services to 13,023 citizens through police service centers.
Moreover, the PHP registered 100 cases against the use of illegal weapons and made significant drug seizures, including 1,591 liters of alcohol, 5,480 grams of charas, and 10,050 grams of ice.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar commended the PHP for their outstanding performance and reiterated the importance of continued dedication to ensuring smooth traffic flow and protecting the citizens of Punjab. He emphasized the dual role of the PHP in both traffic management and crime prevention as vital to the province’s public safety strategy.
