Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has mandated stringent legal measures against individuals involved in rape, child abuse, and corruption, as revealed during a high-level meeting on law and order. She emphasized the development of a robust strategy to address these issues.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the meeting featured a comprehensive briefing on the province’s security status. It was disclosed that the Safe City Project has been completed in all 43 districts of Punjab, with an impending formal inauguration. The Chief Minister approved the installation of over 2,000 additional Safe City cameras in Lahore and plans to extend the project to 98 more tehsils and riverine areas.

A dedicated cell has been established within the Counter Terrorism Department for monitoring blasphemy-related cases, and a Special Cyber Unit will be created to address cybercrime. The initiative includes recruiting additional personnel to enhance security in tribal regions.

Chief Minister Sharif emphasized the importance of accessible policing, directing the establishment of mobile police stations to deliver services directly to citizens’ homes. She highlighted a substantial reduction in provincial crime rates attributed to the Crime Control Department’s efforts. The Chief Minister reiterated a zero-tolerance policy against crimes targeting women and children, underscoring their importance.

The meeting also outlined the provision of 29,000 body cameras to police personnel by early September, completing the registration of Imams, and the allocation of Rs10 billion for over 72,000 Imams across the province. It was noted that 139,000 individuals residing illegally have been repatriated, with 23,243 illegal foreign nationals deported in 2026. In the first half of the year, 5,127 illegal Afghan nationals were relocated to holding centers.

The briefing concluded with updates on the documentary and biometric verification of 1.25 million individuals across Punjab and the finalized arrangements for the transparent conduct of the MDCAT examinations.
