Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has initiated the Free Livestock Programme, targeting economic empowerment for rural women as part of her sustainable rural development plan. The initiative has begun with the distribution of free livestock to eligible women in 13 districts across Punjab, including Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the programme aims to provide livestock to divorced and widowed women up to 55 years old, following verification by the Punjab Social Protection Authority. Women who have received livestock from government schemes in the last five years are not eligible. Facilitation desks are set up at veterinary hospitals and animal health centres, with online applications available through the official portal.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the necessity of integrating rural women into the mainstream economy to combat poverty. She affirmed the government’s commitment to financial independence for rural women through sustainable livestock support, enabling them to secure a livelihood and enhance their families’ economic conditions.
