KARACHI: Karachi is undergoing a significant urban transformation with major road upgrades and infrastructure projects aimed at modernizing the city, according to Karamullah Waqasi, spokesperson to the Mayor of Karachi and Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentary Leader in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). The initiatives, under the leadership of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, are designed to enhance the city’s cleanliness, safety, and overall modernity.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, one of the key projects involves the redevelopment of Regal Chowk, which is set to be renamed Khatm-e-Nabuwwat (PBUH) Chowk. This redevelopment will include modern lighting, green landscaping, and improved cleanliness to serve as a prominent civic landmark. Additionally, the construction of Nasir Jump Road, connecting Ibrahim Hyderi and Korangi Creek, is progressing with high engineering standards, including the installation of streetlights for safer commuting.
The ongoing development includes the installation of paving blocks on Robson Road in Jodia Cloth Market to facilitate commercial activities and pedestrian accessibility. The Baldia Sports Complex has also been completed, offering sports and recreational opportunities to local youth and residents.
Infrastructure improvements continue with the rehabilitation of Mission Road and the construction of an overhead pedestrian bridge on Nishtar Road to enhance traffic flow and pedestrian safety. These projects are part of a broader effort to upgrade Karachi’s roads to international standards, including the implementation of modern traffic lane markings on Nishtar Road, a major corridor in the city.
During a visit to Hijrat Colony, Mayor Wahab addressed local concerns regarding land lease regularization, directing authorities to take immediate action. The mayor’s administration remains committed to timely project completion and continuous improvement of municipal services, with a focus on transforming Karachi into a modern, environmentally sustainable metropolitan city.
