Privatisation Commission Board Recommends Restructuring Plans for Power Companies


Islamabad: The Privatisation Commission Board, led by Mr. Muhammad Ali, has recommended that the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation approve restructuring plans for three power distribution companies. The companies in question are Faisalabad Electric Supply Company, Gujranwala Electric Power Company, and Islamabad Electric Supply Company.



According to Press Information Department, the plans are based on the audited financial statements for the period ending March 31, 2026. The framework seeks to maximize value for the Government of Pakistan while keeping transactions viable for potential investors. A Special Purpose Vehicle will be established to manage selected assets and liabilities of the three companies.



Interest from both domestic and international investors has been reported, with deadlines for Expressions of Interest set in August and September 2026. Additionally, the board has set up Transaction Committees for the outsourcing of airports in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi, with the Asian Development Bank advising on Islamabad Airport.



The board also appointed RSM Avais Hyder Liaquat Nauman as auditors for transactions completed between 2024-2027. BDO Ebrahim & Co. will handle the annual audit of the Privatisation Commission’s financial statements for 2025-2028. The board emphasized its commitment to a transparent and competitive privatisation program.
