Islamabad: The Privatisation Commission Board has approved significant measures to advance privatisation transactions in Pakistan’s power, aviation, and financial sectors. In its 259th meeting chaired by Muhammad Ali, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation, the Board prequalified nine parties for the privatisation of Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) and considered restructuring the outsourcing process for major airports.
According to Privatisation Commission, the Board received 11 Expressions of Interest for GEPCO, aiming to acquire 51% to 100% shareholding with management control. Nine parties, including Turkish energy firms and notable Pakistani consortia, were selected to proceed to the next transaction stage. The remaining parties either withdrew or failed to meet documentation requirements.
In aviation, the Board addressed the reconstitution of a Negotiation Committee for outsourcing Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad airports. The Privatisation Commission also advised fast-tracking the privatisation of House Building Finance Company Limited and Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited. The Board emphasized its dedication to transparent and competitive transactions to attract investment and improve efficiency.
