Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a substantial investment of $2 billion by the international shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk in Pakistan. The Prime Minister conveyed his approval during discussions with Robert Maersk, chairman of the board of directors of A.P. Moller-Maersk, in Islamabad.
The Prime Minister directed the swift conversion of previous memorandums of understanding signed with the company into formal agreements. To expedite this process, he instructed the formation of a technical working group. This group is expected to deliver recommendations within a month.
Emphasizing the importance of enhancing the maritime sector, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to eliminate obstacles and align the sector with global standards. He noted that the investment from A.P. Moller-Maersk would significantly impact Pakistan’s maritime industry.
Robert Maersk expressed enthusiasm for investing in Pakistan’s seaports. He commended the government’s economic policies, which he described as conducive to attracting investment.
