ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining strong and forward-looking engagement with the United Kingdom, highlighting the country’s longstanding strategic partnership with the British government. The statement came during a meeting with UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell in Islamabad.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister recalled a recent telephonic conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, where both leaders expressed a mutual desire to further strengthen ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom. During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his best wishes to Prime Minister Starmer.
The British National Security Adviser expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s constructive role in regional diplomacy, particularly its efforts to facilitate dialogue and promote de-escalation in the region. Powell also highlighted the British government’s keen interest in expanding bilateral cooperation in areas such as security, trade, investment, and development.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch.
