New York: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and the UN’s role in global peace and development.

According to Press Information Department, during their meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the Secretary-General’s leadership and his role in upholding the UN Charter. The discussions covered key regional and international developments, with a focus on the Middle East situation. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve regional tensions and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace and stability.

The Prime Minister also reiterated Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian right to self-determination and statehood. Additionally, he highlighted the rising trend of Islamophobia, particularly in Pakistan’s immediate neighborhood, and called for effective international action to address it. The situation in Afghanistan and the increase in terrorism from Afghan soil were also topics of discussion.

The Secretary-General commended Pakistan’s contributions to international peace and security, particularly its mediation efforts for conflict resolution and stability in the region. He acknowledged Pakistan’s significant role and sacrifices in countering terrorism.
