Islamabad, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has committed to eliminating the threat of smuggling to safeguard the national economy. His pledge came during a visit to the family of the martyred Customs Inspector Syed Hasnain Ali Tirmizi in Abbottabad on Thursday.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during his visit, Prime Minister Sharif expressed that the eradication of smuggling would save billions of dollars for Pakistan, which could then be reinvested into the country’s progress and prosperity. He noted that the Interior Ministry has been instructed to work closely with provincial governments to tackle this issue effectively.
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to reiterate his commitment to transforming Pakistan into a peaceful abode, acknowledging the significant sacrifices made by security forces and law enforcement agencies in striving for a better future for the nation’s youth. He assured that the contributions of these brave individuals are highly valued and remembered by the entire nation.
During the visit, accompanied by Federal Ministers Attaullah Tarar and Amir Muqam, Prime Minister Sharif offered fateha for the departed and presented the martyr’s father with a cheque as part of the Shuhada package. He also praised the support from Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir and the Pakistan Army in combating smuggling.
Prime Minister Sharif paid heartfelt tributes to Inspector Tirmizi, declaring him a national hero whose sacrifice will not be forgotten. He outlined the details of the Shuhuda package, which includes significant financial support and benefits for the families of fallen personnel, such as cash grants and funds for housing, as well as provisions for free education and health services.
