ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly represented the concerns of the Muslim Ummah at the United Nations General Assembly, addressing issues ranging from Palestinian rights to regional peace and security, according to a press release from Radio Pakistan. Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar highlighted the Prime Minister’s speech, which condemned Israeli actions in Palestine and emphasized Pakistan’s support in providing relief and educational opportunities to Palestinians.

The Prime Minister’s address was reportedly well-received, with Palestinian representatives in the assembly applauding his remarks. In his speech, Sharif also tackled the issues of Islamophobia and the treatment of Muslims in India, reiterating Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir and condemning India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. He emphasized Pakistan’s unwavering support for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

Tarar noted that the Prime Minister reaffirmed solidarity with Saudi Arabia, declaring Makkah al-Mukarramah a red line. Domestically, Tarar criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, led by the PTI, for its approach to law and order, accusing it of failing to effectively combat terrorism. He praised Pakistan’s security forces for their sacrifices and reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism.

The press conference also featured Ikhtiar Wali Khan, Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who criticized the provincial government’s handling of law enforcement and infrastructure. He commended the reconstruction of the Radio Pakistan Peshawar building and called for improvements in the local healthcare and policing systems.

Tarar concluded by highlighting Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in promoting peace, including facilitating discussions between the United States and Iran, with a focus on ensuring open maritime routes to stabilize global oil prices. Additionally, he mentioned that former US President Donald Trump shared a clip of Prime Minister Sharif’s speech on social media, acknowledging Pakistan’s role in advocating for peace.
