Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has asserted that rhetoric cannot change the internationally recognized status of Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory, nor can it deny the rights of its people, as outlined in international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions.
According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif communicated via a post on his X handle, expressing concerns over the prolonged military presence and strict laws in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. These actions, he argued, support India’s efforts to alter the region’s Muslim-majority demographic and suppress Kashmiri identity.
The Prime Minister emphasized that claims of development cannot replace the people’s right to self-determination through a free and impartial plebiscite, as required by the United Nations. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people’s struggle and urged India to reverse its measures, cease human rights violations, and foster conditions for a peaceful resolution based on the UN Charter and Security Council resolutions.
