ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the relevant authorities to expedite the implementation of right-sizing measures to enhance the efficiency of government departments. He emphasized the necessity of leveraging modern technology and improved training to boost the performance of government institutions.
According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif chaired a review meeting on right-sizing and improving federal government efficiency. During the meeting, he underscored that eliminating unnecessary posts and positions is crucial to the government’s reform agenda. Sharif highlighted that the closure of the Utility Stores Corporation, the Pakistan Public Works Department, and the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation has already led to savings for the national treasury.
The Prime Minister called for a third-party audit of the abolished posts and closed institutions to ensure transparency and accountability. He also directed the Right-Sizing Committee to finalize its remaining recommendations within a month.
The meeting revealed that the right-sizing initiative has reduced the civil government’s expenditure-to-GDP ratio, with vacant posts in ministries and departments being eliminated. Additionally, proposals are underway for the right-sizing of state-owned enterprises and autonomous bodies. The privatization of Pakistan International Airlines and First Women Bank Limited has been completed, with further steps being taken to privatize other state-owned entities.
