Bishkek: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Heads of States Meeting in Bishkek. The meeting focused on reaffirming the longstanding ties between the two countries and exploring ways to enhance bilateral relations.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting was attended by senior officials including Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation following the decisions made during President Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan in June. Discussions also included regional connectivity and efforts for regional peace building, with Prime Minister Sharif highlighting the role of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s recent visit to Tehran.

The leaders agreed on the necessity of diplomatic engagement for achieving peace and stability. They highlighted the Islamabad MoU as a framework for regional peace, with President Pezeshkian commending Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts. Both leaders extended invitations for future official visits, underscoring their commitment to deepening cooperation.
