Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on Pakistani scholars to apply their international education and research experience towards the nation’s development. He made these remarks during a meeting with participants of the “Uraan Overseas Pakistan Summer Scholars Programme” in Islamabad, as reported by Radio Pakistan.

The scholars, under the auspices of the Ministry of Planning and Development, are engaged in a six-week internship program aimed at addressing key challenges facing Pakistan. The Prime Minister expressed his support for the decision of Pakistani students from leading global universities to undertake internships within the country, highlighting the critical role of youth in nation-building.

Prime Minister Sharif discussed the government’s reform agenda, noting that Pakistan had previously been on the verge of economic default but has since achieved stability through emergency reforms. The reform program includes digitalization efforts, tax revenue increases, business environment improvements, and the promotion of sustainable economic growth. He emphasized that the reforms aim to establish a robust, self-reliant, and export-oriented economy.

In terms of national security, the Prime Minister referenced Pakistan’s military leadership under Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the country’s victory over India in May 2025. He also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic role in mediating the conflict between the United States and Iran, resulting in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as a step towards global peace.

The meeting also provided a platform for students to express their views and offer suggestions for enhancing various sectors in Pakistan.
