New York: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for a sustained commitment to diplomacy to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region, highlighting the need for restraint and de-escalation. He conveyed these sentiments during a meeting with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister expressed concern over ongoing regional conflicts and emphasized the importance of implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to play a constructive role in regional peace efforts. Both leaders reaffirmed the longstanding ties between Pakistan and Iran and agreed on the necessity to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

President Pezeshkian commended Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and emphasized the strong historical and cultural bonds between the two nations. The leaders agreed to maintain regular consultations and coordination to address regional challenges and opportunities, aiming for peace, security, and prosperity.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and senior officials from both countries. Following the discussion, Prime Minister Sharif posted on social media, reaffirming the commitment to deepen Pakistan-Iran cooperation and expressing concern over regional conflicts, underscoring the need for diplomatic solutions.
