ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged religious scholars to take an active role in fostering unity and peace, emphasizing the importance of guiding the nation’s youth away from extremist ideologies. Addressing attendees at the International Seerat-un-Nabi Conference, the Prime Minister highlighted the pivotal role scholars play in addressing issues like sectarianism and promoting the teachings of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
According to Radio Pakistan, Sharif called on scholars to emphasize tolerance, dialogue, and compassion as taught by the Prophet, and to ensure that scholarly differences do not lead to division. He stressed the importance of developing the moral character of the younger generation, aligning with the Prophet’s noble example.
The Prime Minister noted the establishment of a framework by the National Rahmatul-lil-Alameen Wa Khatamun Nabiyyin Authority, implemented in Islamabad, with plans for broader adoption across provinces. He urged that youth be equipped with both Islamic traditions and modern education to tackle challenges posed by extremism and misleading ideologies.
Religious scholars, Sharif said, should be distinguished by strong moral character and promote unity from the pulpit, embodying the Prophet’s universal message of peace and compassion. He also praised Pakistan’s efforts towards regional peace and Muslim unity, and acknowledged the support of Türkiye and Saudi Arabia.
During the conference, Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf and other scholars, including Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad and Maulana Raghib Hussain Naeemi, encouraged youth to seek guidance from the Prophet’s life. The event concluded with the Prime Minister presenting awards to authors of Seerat books.
