Karachi: President Asif Ali Zardari chaired a meeting to review the progress of various Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and other cooperative initiatives between the Government of Sindh and Chinese companies. He emphasized the need for swift advancement of these projects, urging that all procedural and technical requirements be promptly addressed.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting, held at CM House, included delegations from Anhui Nengtong New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Luoyang Modern Biology Group. The meeting, facilitated by the China-Pakistan-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Association, assessed the implementation status of previously agreed areas of cooperation and explored strategies for their advancement.
The President was briefed on progress in areas such as electric vehicle charging infrastructure, veterinary biological vaccines, animal identification and traceability, agricultural technology, healthcare, and fire safety equipment. Discussions highlighted the Sindh government’s efforts to collaborate with Chinese companies to facilitate these initiatives.
President Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to fostering strong economic ties with China, particularly under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), now in its second phase. He highlighted the significance of his regular visits to China in enhancing bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
During discussions with Anhui Nengtong New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., the focus was on manufacturing and supplying electric vehicle charging stations and developing related infrastructure in Sindh. The conversation extended to solar-storage-charging facilities, energy storage solutions, smart charging networks, technology transfer, and training.
Karachi and Hyderabad were identified as key areas for developing EV infrastructure, with the Karachi-Hyderabad M-9 corridor considered a potential starting point for intercity charging facilities. The President expressed optimism that this cooperation would facilitate Pakistan’s transition towards green mobility and contribute to the new energy sector.
In terms of cooperation with Luoyang Modern Biology Group, the President was briefed on veterinary biological vaccines and animal identification and traceability. The roadmap for cooperation includes the ongoing visit of the Chinese delegation, a planned visit by a Sindh Institute of Animal Husbandry delegation to China, and technical work related to the Sindh-08 strain of foot and mouth disease.
Vaccine trials in China and Pakistan are expected to conclude by November 2026, paving the way for finalizing costs and timelines. President Zardari praised the collaboration, noting its potential to enhance veterinary epidemic prevention, livestock management, disease control, and food safety. He urged the swift completion of all procedural and technical requirements.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Senator Saleem Mandviwala, and several Sindh government officials. The Chinese delegations comprised representatives from Anhui Nengtong New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Luoyang Modern Biology Group, among others.
