President and Prime Minister Extend Greetings on the Advent of the New Islamic Year

Islamabad: The President and Prime Minister of Pakistan have extended their best wishes to the nation and the broader Muslim Ummah on the occasion of the new Islamic year, 1446 Hijrah.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the importance of fostering affection, forbearance, and tolerance across the nation in a message released today. He encouraged all to work towards strengthening national unity and interfaith harmony. The President felicitated the nation on the arrival of the new Islamic year and expressed hopes for peace, stability, progress, and prosperity in the country.

In his message, the President also reflected on the significance of Muharram-ul-Haram, noting its historical importance as a time of sacrifice and resistance as exemplified by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions. He underscored that the month teaches us to stand against cruelty and evil with righteousness and perseverance.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, called on the nation to strive towards a society rooted in social justice, equality, and compassion. He extended his best wishes for a year of peace and prosperity for both Pakistan and the global Muslim community. The Prime Minister also voiced a prayer for the alleviation of oppression in regions such as India’s illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine, hoping for a future of peace and harmony for all.

The new Islamic year serves as a reminder of the profound historical sacrifices made by the family of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), led by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), which continue to inspire the faithful in their pursuit of justice and truth.
