President and Prime Minister Advocate for Workers’ Rights on International Labour Day

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have jointly urged all relevant parties, including the business community and industrialists, to ensure the dignity and protection of the nation’s labour force. In separate messages delivered on International Labour Day, both leaders emphasized that safeguarding workers is tantamount to safeguarding the country’s future, asserting that empowering labour is key to enduring national strength.

According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to upholding international labour standards and promoting fundamental workplace rights. This includes advocating for fair wages, social protection, the eradication of forced and child labour, and ensuring non-discrimination in the workplace.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the significant role of Pakistani workers, both domestically and internationally, in showcasing the nation’s capabilities and professional excellence. He commended national institutions such as the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution and the Workers Welfare Fund for their ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of workers and their families through the provision of pensions, housing, education, and other essential services.
