Islamabad, In a firm stance against workplace harassment, President Dr. Arif Alvi has confirmed the dismissal from service of a bank manager found guilty of sexually harassing a female colleague.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the decision comes after the accused manager’s appeal against the Ombudsman’s ruling was rejected by President Alvi, who noted that the evidence clearly established the individual’s guilt. Moreover, the President pointed out that the accused had admitted to the allegations, reinforcing the decision to uphold the dismissal.
President Alvi remarked on the importance of maintaining a respectful and safe working environment, emphasizing that harassment creates hostile and unpleasant conditions for women employees. He underscored the significance of the Protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2010, which aims to ensure a secure working space for women and uphold their right to work with dignity.
The Act, President Alvi highlighted, is rooted in the constitutional principles of equal opportunity for both men and women, advocating for a livelihood free from discrimination and fear. This decision reflects the government’s commitment to enforcing laws designed to protect women in the workplace.
